The original (classic) Peugeot 301 was produced between 1932 and 1936 - powered by a four-cylinder water-cooled 1.5liter 35bhp @4000rpm engine capable of speeding between 70km/h to 100km/h (depends on body type).
An electric starter motor was included even though provision for manual cranking remained (normal mode of starting the car at that time)... remember Charlie Chaplin Movies?.
In September 2012, the new Peugeot 301 sedan makes its debut at the Paris Auto Show.
The new 301, which looks like a grown-up c-segment will be built in Spain, and will go on sale starting in November 2012. Peugeot says the new compact "is expected to become one of the marque's best-selling vehicles worldwide."
The new Peugeot 301 will be available with one of the following three engines:
1.2-liter three-cylinder 72 hp (petrol)
1.6-liter in line-four 115hp (petrol)
1.6-liter 92hp (diesel)
both petrol engines are available with either a manual transmission or an automated manual gearbox while diesel comes only with the manual transmission.
