We know that the original Golf GTi from the 1980s spawned the cult of the hot hatch, but it was Peugeot’s spunky 1.6 and 1.9 205 GTi's which came to really define the genre.
Now Peugeot is already back with the 207GT [along side with 175THP 207GTi and 207RC] , but can it deliver?
After looking closely at the performance spreadsheet, I found that 207GT is warm enough, it performs just like its larger sibling, 308GT 175THP does if not better but at lower price.
The 207 GT is more properly called the 207 GT THP 150 - that means 150bhp at 5,800rpm, a thumping 240Nm of torque and top speed of 130mph. Accelerates from 0 to 60mph in 7.9second! Kenape? Tak perchayier? Click HERE.
The size is also just right for me. The spec is just as I always wanted from a warm hatch. emmm... perhaps I will consider if I decide not to play "Golf". Honestly, I can't resist it. For time being I must let my 'RCZ project' sublimate first.
Already have 308 [to cart family around] and 206 [for wife & kid] - looks like it's the time now to let go the other two 4-series to make some room for the next Peugeot, probably 207GT [or GTi] - the car for fun-driving.
Having all 206, 207GT [or 207GTi] and 308 [or 407] is a logical choice than investing on a single unit of entry level W203/4 [or W211/2] I think - for those who "can afford and willing" to spend RM300k++ lah. Unfortunately some of us are either "can afford but not willing" or "willing but can't afford". That's the problem. Including myself; being placed in the third category, haa haaa...

bro,
after some discussion with 'relevant' people ;) the 207gt with it's 150hp lump may have a following... but it depends on the price. vw initially sold their polo gti at about rm130k but were only able to clear the cars at below rm100k, more like rm95k. this would be a loss to vw already and the folk at nasim said that it is highly unlikely that the 207gt can be priced in the below rm100k category. it will be even more expensive for customers if the 207gti or rc with their 175hp engine is considered. again, nasim wouldn't want the 308gt issue to surface again so, it is quite unlikely that the gt or the gti make an appearance... still, it is nice to dream :)
Thanks for the info Derick. Now I'm seriously considering 207GT 150THP after getting rid of those antiques [405 and W124]in my garage. Hope the price will not more than RM133,333k to compete against the 1.4liter [?] POLO turbo...
By now my "RCZ dream" is already evaporated, ha haaaa.
hmmm, not sure if they do special orders though. maybe the 207gt can be ordered as a special order.
but spare parts may have to wait as it is not an official model. there are some shared parts that can be used though. what say you? want me to check the price for you? fully cbu though.
Yes Please...
Many readers wanna to also.
