The GTi is back after 30 years!
Powered by the same 200 horsepower and 275Nm engine for the most powerful RCZ GT. Matched to a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission driving the front wheels and will accelerate from 0-100km/hr in under 6.8 seconds and accelerates all the way to maximum speed of 230km/hr.
Compared with the standard 208, the GTi gets a 36-mm wider track at the front and rear, as well as a rear roof spoiler. Other distinctive exterior features include double chromed exhaust tailpipes, a full body-kit, and a brushed aluminum GTi logo..
Apart from tuned suspensions the car also gets brake discs measuring 302 mm diameter at the front and 249 mm at the rear.
On the inside, the sports leather stitched steering wheel and matching gear lever, double stitching in the seats, and modern LED backlighting for the instrument gauges. The seats are trimmed with Nappa leather on the outer section, and cloth in the center with an embossed tartan motif, and a leather head restraint.
Leather steering wheel has lower flat section and carries the GTi logo.
Panaromic Roof is standard for Malaysian market.
The Power Plant
The EP6 CDTX engine for Peugeot 208 GTi, is also the same engine used on 308GTi, RCZ 200, Citroen DS4 and DS5.It comes from the family of engines EP, called "Prince", developed in collaboration with BMW Group and produced by the French Mechanical Douvrin in the Pas-de-Calais. The EP engine won for the sixth consecutive year since 2007 the title of "Engine of the Year" in its class.

400m standing with new HPFP

After replacing the Hi-Pressure Fuel Pump the car was tested for straight line performance. Only one test was needed - i.e the 400 meter standing.
Running time, Leg Length [total: 8+12+14+17+..... =399m] and Speeds were recorded with a data logger as shown below:

Without plotting charts, it can be seen at 9th second the speed was 98km/hr and at the 16th second the car already arrived near the 400m line at 132km/hr. Hence the original performance has been restored. See original performance data HERE (century acceleration) and HERE (400m standing)

Peugeot 308T Performance Deteriorates Over Time?
[updated on July 1st, 2010 on 400m standing test]
When I planned to buy another car in 2008/2009 my basic specs were:-
- costs less than RM150k
- should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in less than 10sec.
- top speed beyond 200kph.
- must also have adequate safety features
- Continental car
The only cars shortlisted around that time were of course the New Peugeot 308T and a used W203. I opted for the former. Actually I was one of those who booked the 308T even before it was launched. Subsequently I canceled my booking on the used [2nd hand] 3-pointed star W203K to replace the old W124.

However over time, the performance seems to deteriorate slightly [based on butt-dyno]. I also asked for opinions from fellow 308T owners. As usual there were quick answers such as long term effect on RON95 and high viscosity oil that I used, etc...
I didn't jump into any conclusion as yet without technical proof, so I decided to carry out tests to verify. I did the sprint tests twice on the same road but on different days and at different time and the result ...
To my surprise, the car does not only maintain its performance but has improved in century acceleration timing. Now it takes between 9.0 to 9.1 seconds to sprint . For instance the car is still in its original condition and running on RON95 gasoline. Last year it took between 9.2 to 9.4 seconds! [click HERE]
Peugeot 308T performance does not deteriorate as yet even after clocking 25,000km [only butt-dyno tells otherwise] . So does its performance on cheaper and lower RON rating fuel.
Next is standing test...
Comparing with last year's data the test shows that there is an improvement in 400m standing by 0.2 seconds down to 16.1 seconds.

Need for Speed?
214km/hr @5600rpm on RON95
From direct talks, autoForums and personal blogs it seems that everybody is telling Peugeot 308 140THP top speed is only 215km/hr whether the car is running on RON95, RON97, V-power or even with P-Tronik box plugged in! The only difference is probably the time it takes to arrive at that speed .
What does that mean?
I have a feeling that the car is electronically speed limited to 215km/hr only, if not how come even after squeezing-out around 190bhp [?] there is no improvement at the top end?
To me top speed is not important though as long as it is more than 200km/hr. What I'm interested is 400m/1000m standing time and how fast to smoke tailgating cars [or MPV's] from 150km/hr to 180km/hr or from 160km/hr to 200km/hr! I still believe plug n play tuning box and /or ECU remap will be able to full fill my "torque/hp greed".
BTW, I've a feeling there is no significant advantage of RON97 over RON95 on Peugeot 308 140THP in performance and fuel consumptions. Nevertheless I will be carrying out intensive tests on RON97 from November through December 2009 to find out whether my assumption is wrong or otherwise.
No matter what will be the outcome, I'll start the new year 2010 by pumping in RON95 again because my tests so far proven there is nothing wrong with RON95 in term of performance and fuel consumptions.

THE Test for "the Way I Drive" Part 1

Bangi, October 25th, Just came back from another weekend trip [this time was 900+km only - to and fro Penang including kawasan2 yg sewaktu dengannya] with a bunch of die-hard and seasoned Peugeot lovers.
We drove the car w/o worrying on fuel consumptions and speed limits [and speed traps] but SAFETY for passengers, pedestrian and other road users was always our FIRST priority.
Before crossing over to the Island we stopped over at Juru Autocity to meet Behcw to see and feel his 308 performance on P-tronic Tuning Chip, he also gave us some useful tips on how the connections were done. Thanks Beh. We were impressed, but do I need one?
In Penang, we joined another group from PCM including its president, abang.K
This time around I had an opportunity to carry out yet another important test for the stock [unmodded] 1.6 liter EP6-DT prince engine running on RON95.
The burning FAQ -"What is the maximum speed of an un-modded Peugeot 308Turbo on RON95?" - The following are the answers;
From Garmin GPS: 210km/hr
Note: the moving average speed has been brought down due to the 2-day traffic crawl, otherwise it should be around 170km/hr avg. on PLUS. It took about similar number of hours [five hours KL-Penang-KL] on PLUS and crawling in Georgetown and Butterworth!
From Datalogger: 212km/hr

Speedometer/Techometer Reading: 214km/hr
I don't exactly know which is the most accurate but all readings are NOT LESS than 210km/hr and it was on RON95!
[Expecting better performance from those who have installed P-tronic Tuning Box and running on RON97 fuel]
I had established an approximation on RON95 fuel consumption [at current price of RM1.80/liter] for Peugeot 308Turbo as:
sen/km = Speed in kph/10 [with +- 10% margin for steady speeds between 100kph~200kph]
e.g
@110kph:10.0~12.0 sen per km.
@150kph: 13.5~16.5 sen per km.
@200kph: 18.0~22.0 sen per km.

400m sprint in 16.3 second on RON95!
Run another sprint test this morning because I didn't do quite well during the first five seconds taking off yesterday when there was a slower car in front that I had to potong sebelah kiri before flooring the accelerator. Today I was lucky to be in 'pole position' at my favorite 'START' grid.
Unfortunately, after hitting 160km/hr I had to ease the accelerator pedal a little bit to avoid a collision with a changing lane slower cars.
The overall timing was improved in 'S' Auto mode.UPDATE:
1000m standing in 29.7 seconds [175km/hr]
400m standing in 16.3 seconds [137km/hr]
For now, I'm quite happy with the century acceleration and 1000m sprint timings. What I want to improve is 400m sprint. My target is around 16 seconds on RON95. Will try to experiment in tiptronic mode at which rpm is the best to upshift. Will also try to touch 140km/hr @ 400m mark - so far only managed to hit between 133 to 136km/hr.
At 400m gridline most 1.6~2.0-liter saloons do in 17.5seconds or more and hardly touch 120km/hour!.

1000m sprint in 30seconds
Tested my308 for 1000m sprint on my way back home this evening on the remaining RON95 fuel. The test was carried out in normal auto mode. Recorded with a data-logger.

Speed Increment on RON95
Today I had multiple good-times smoking n.a 2.0liter cars - both European and Japanese Saloons. It was on PLUS [Northbound]. Besides testing for the "pick-uping" power of the 308 THP against n.a 2.0 liter cars I also collected additional data for running on RON95.
Here it is...
From the logged data it took around 5.5 seconds [avg.] to increase speeds by 10km/hr at any point from 150km/hr up to around 180km/hr in 4th gear *
e.g
150km/hr to 160km/hr in 5.5 seconds
160km/hr to 170km/hr in 5.5 seconds
Is it "too slow" on RON95? What is the best timing running on RON97 or V-power then?
*Earlier test took less than 25seconds [updated timing took 23.5 seconds even on RON95] to sprint from 0~160km/hr .

0~100km/hr on RON95: Part 2 - in 'S' Auto Mode
[Note: Somebody had recorded and published "more than 10 seconds" for the century acceleration without knowing that he and the ECU were actually on the 'learning mode']
AL4 gearbox is 'auto adaptive'. The gearbox ECU must be 'told and taught' for the desired driving style. Once the ECU has adapted to the requirement sure it can deliver...
Yesterday, there were some other cars on my favourite stretch for the sprint because I was a little bit late to workplace . The sprint test was aborted.
Today I left home a bit earlier. So I could do another sprint test freely at the same straight I did two days ago. Today's test was in 'S' mode. Here is the logged data:

See, even on RON95 the 308 performs similar to manufacture's claim: "9.3 second for the 0~100km/hr acceleration". So, what does that mean? RON95 no good??

0~100km/hr on RON95: Part 1 - in 'NORMAL' Auto Mode
On my way to work around 7:00am this morning, the traffic was clear and I had already fixed a datalogger in my308 to record how fast could it sprint from stand still to 100km/hr using RON95 fuel in NORMAL Auto Mode. I just want to prove popular belief saying that "RON95 is no good for Peugeot 308 Turbo" is WRONG.
I stopped @ a layby for a few seconds before flooring the accelerator pedal until a gentle 'click' sound was heard. Despite of switching ON the Traction Control the front 225/45 R17 tyres still gave out promising 'sqeeking sound' and lose initial traction a bit.

I only needed 250m straight for the test - to floor the accelerator pedal on the first 150m and 100m to slow down safely. The road was not horizontal though, as there is a gentle slope-up at 30:1 gradient. But the lion with ample torque equivalent to a 2.4liter n.a power plant still managed to sprint from standstill to 100km/hr in 9.6 seconds even using RON95 in NORMAL Auto mode.

From "0" to "100" Sprint
In kph or mph?

A stretch of "Persiaran Timor" to the south of Putrajaya runs in parallel with Sungai Langat is just perfect for the sprint test up to and beyond 160kph. It is a six-lane dual carriageway. There is a 2-km flat and straight part of the road, virtually no traffic at dusk. I was on my way back from Cyberjaya then. [Putrajaya Hospital is also not very far away... just in case]
A GPS-datalogger and MapSource were used for the data recording and processing respectively. The same set of equipment was also used for testing myPeugeot 206 before.
"0 to 100kph" or "0 to 100mph" sprints... in less than 9sec and 25sec respectively.
The "Century acceleration" on tiptronic* is about 400ms faster than the time recorded during previous test on AUTO.
*The advantage of TIPTRONIC is that the accelerator pedal need not be depressed while up-shifting, hence faster acceleration and smoother speed curve.
However as can be seen from the "speed vs time" chart there are slight 'dips' and 'surge' during upshift at the end of 1st gear @050kph, 2nd gear @100kph and 3rd gear @160kph during which the torque dropped below 180Nm. After shifting up there was a soft 'jerk' as the torque surged above 210Nm when the rpm dropped to app. 4000rpm.
A similar test [by others] using a different device also recorded 8.9sec for the 0~100kph sprint.

Will do the same test after the 10,000th km Service.

myPeugeot 308 Top Speeds
[1st test]
Recently I did a top-speed test for myPeugeot 308 in each gear [in tiptronic mode].
Didn't have time to read the exact techometer readings on the first three gears during the first test, just shifted up agak2 before reaching the redline. Approx. top speed in each gear was recorded as reference for the subsequent tests. BTW, I suspect 308THP comes with engine speed [rpm] limiter to prevent overrev [?].
[2nd test]
The following are the approximate top-speed in each gear.
1st gear: 055kph* [o34mph]
2nd gear: 105kph [065mph]
3rd gear: 155kph [096mph]
4th gear: 214kph [133mph]
Will do test #3 using a data logger for better results.

Peak speeds were recorded as techometer hits redline
1st gear: 61kph
2nd gear: 112kph
3rd gear: 162kph
4th gear: Didn't try again.
Hitting 210kph is more than enough for a family hatch indeed.... and technically the techometer will never hit 6000rpm mark in this gear, unless the front wheels are jacked up above the ground or going down a straight slope.
That's the END of rpm vs speed test.

myPeugeot 308 Acceleration
April 17th was a bright day - clear blue sky with little isolated clouds. For Southern Klang Valley it was the best late afternoon weather in more than one month. On every Friday as usual I left my office early. The traffic was clear and I decided to test myPeugeot 308 for an acceleration from the last traffic light before reaching my home.
I had with me a GPS datalogger. There is a 500m-straight for a quick sprint for 20 seconds up to 150kph before slowing down for a left-hand curve - there is also a gradual sloping up with approx. 50:1 gradient as a slight impediment for the test as shown below.

This is part of the logged data. The car hit 100kph just after 9th second from standstill. However based on the car speedometer it took just 8.75secs to hit 100kph. The speedometer of my car probably reads 2-3% higher as I mentioned in earlier post.
Based on conservative figures from logged data, I plotted a chart using Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet as shown below and I can conclude that myPeugeot 308 can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 9.25seconds on normal AUTO mode. Prabably less than 9.1 sec if it was tested on level road by deploying tiptronic. I will find a better place to test how fast [or slow] for the 308 THP to reach from 0-160kph later...[already done, click [HERE] ]
I'm quite certain by the time other 1.6~1.8liter N.A automatic tx cars reach 100kph, Peugeot 308THP Auto already hitting 120kph or more!
