myPeugeot 308 Top Speeds

[1st test]
Recently I did a top-speed test for myPeugeot 308 in each gear [in tiptronic mode].

Didn't have time to read the exact techometer readings on the first three gears during the first test, just shifted up agak2 before reaching the redline. Approx. top speed in each gear was recorded as reference for the subsequent tests. BTW, I suspect 308THP comes with engine speed [rpm] limiter to prevent overrev [?].

[2nd test]
The following are the approximate top-speed in each gear.
1st gear: 055kph* [o34mph]
2nd gear: 105kph [065mph]
3rd gear: 155kph [096mph]
4th gear: 214kph [133mph]
Will do test #3 using a data logger for better results.

[3rd test] - updated!
Peak speeds were recorded as techometer hits redline
1st gear: 61kph
2nd gear: 112kph
3rd gear: 162kph
4th gear: Didn't try again.
Hitting 210kph is more than enough for a family hatch indeed.... and technically the techometer will never hit 6000rpm mark in this gear, unless the front wheels are jacked up above the ground or going down a straight slope.
That's the END of rpm vs speed test.

very thorough test uncleD .. the 4th Gear .. must be a speed limiter at work right? ... cos from the looks of it .. it should be able to go beyond 210 ...

I feel scarry at speed beyond 200kph la..., I leave it to you Verm to continue testing beyond 210kph. One fella told me his 308THP can go 215kph...

where did you test it. How long stretch of road did you need?
You really push your car ya.

There are lots of beautiful stretches between Kempas Interchange to Senawang [and vice-versa] can test the car for speed... except around Air Keroh.

To test going up slopes and handling and at hi-speed GOTO Karak Highways between Gombak Toll Plaza to Bentung Exit.... my usual play ground there he heee...

If u wanna test the limits try going to Bukit Tinggi [Colmar Tropicale] the traffic is not heavy as going up GH.

Wanna join me to FH on June 8th?

Would love to join but I'm still overseas. Will only be back in July. Wanna make a convoy trip up Frasers then? I love the one way up there.

Ahwan, at the speed of 210km/h, how was the handling of your car ? If compare to your 124 and 405 ? Cheers.

Bill,
When u r back home? Then we can organized a drive to CH via Simpang Pulai. I'm pretty sure u like those beautiful curves to glide through... then climb up Brincang Mt. I did before with 206 1.4 - the engine almost cried to death to arrive at the 6666ft summit. After that we go Penang to meet Verm... wokay?

Verm,
Me too, I normallly set the speed limiter to 190kph. w/o which the car can easily pass 200kph while storming down the expressway.

Colin,
I never drive that fast in that old "W124", max speed I tried only 125mph [around 200kph]- not stable like 308 when there is cross_wind. "W124" is no good on wet road too. Not sure about "W211/W212' and 'W203/W204" though - don't have enough allocation to buy one of those.

The 405SR is non injection, top speed only 180+kph but the most comfortable car to drive. Very spacious for rear passenger. But drinks more gasoline than "W124"

Regards

Thanks Ahwan for the infor. However, is the 405 more stable than 308 in comparison at 180km/h ? Cheers.

405 feels more 'metallic' and solid at high speeds. Eventhough 405 is not powerfull enough, it is the best ever peugeot I've ever had in handling and comfort department. Only if it is a turbo.... or 3.0liter beast I wouldn't had fallen in love with another feline, he heee...
