All the while I had been thinking that the size difference between my405 and my308 doesn't matter me at all. Both cars have ample interior spaces. In fact in the backseat it seems that 405 has more room than the 308.
However when both cars are placed side by side, surprisingly the difference is very clear. Not an optical illusion. 308 is a quantum leap edges up against its sibling 405 in term of size!
Peugeot 308 is even as large if not larger than some executive cars?
Everybody thinks that Peugeot308 is a compact car. Take a look again... Peugeot 308 does not look like a small car at all even compared to Merc E-Class W211 and BMW 7-Series.

Look at the 'mountain' of luggage to be thrown into the boot.
Can the 'small' boot take all of them?
Sure it does WITHOUT folding down rear seat! Don't think even Peugeot 407 boot can swallow all these.
Believe it or NOT!
To be honest, I bought 308 because I'm a family man... 308 does things that my old Merc and Peugeot 405 can't do and perform!

True, It's weight about 1.4 tonnes is almost heavy as Merc C-180 kompressor [1.485 tonnes]. Peug 308 is also bigger - [1815W vs 1770W, 1488H vs 1447H], but being a hatch it is of course shorter [4276L vs 4581L].
Peug 308 with shorter wheelbase [2608 vs 2760] but almost the same wheeltrack [only 15mm narrower] enhances taking sharp turns..

Your 1.6liter car with twin scroll turbo is more powerful than belt-driven supercharged C-180 Kompressor - 175bhp vs 155bhp, 240Nm vs 230Nm.

My wife was reluctant to look at hatchback car.. seems like the 308 is in deed a very big car.

Optical illusion makes the 308 looks small. 308 is in fact more than 1 inch wider [interior dimension window to window measurement] than Merc E-class W124 and have overall front volume more than the new Merc E-class W212! Merc C-class is of course much smaller.
In term of boot space, even without folding down back seats 308 has more luggage volume than peugeot 407!
As a family car, the hatch can be an advantage. With the back seat folded down, u can even carry a washing machine or a dish washer. As a cyclist I can carry three bicycles in it.
As for the performance and fuel consumption pls read the related pages.
Nevertheless, 308 back seat legroom is a little bit handicapped to give more space for the boot. Not an issue if rear passengers are no taller than 5' 6''.

The cargo net and straps came with the car as standard accessories besides some special tools.
I heard later batches don't have those.
