It has been quite long time debated on which lubricant is suitable for 308THP. I only choose the one which comply with the engine requirement to endure my driving styles.
It could be 'crawling' at speed limits using auto-cruise for economy/leisure driving or flooring the accelerator on second and third gear up to 115kph and 160kph respectively when got spirited along winding federal routes, or storming at 180kph on wet expressways or beyond 200kph on fourth gear when it is dry, straight and flat....
The lubricants were tested to the extremes. I'd got the apportunity to witness THERE with my own eyes and mind.
I use 0W-40 Fully Synthetic Oil which comply with ACEA A3 - i.e Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use in high-performance gasoline and direct injection engines. This oil is however not the best for the cat. converter though. In such case it needs ACEA Cx - The C sequences are roughly based on the performance criteria of the Ax/Bx sequence but with chemical limits. To meet Euro IV emission regulations - nothing to do with the engine.
Mobil1 0W-40 for instance exceeds industry standards and the major leading engine manufacturer requirements. Mobil 1 0W-40 keeps performing well after conventional oils cannot. Mobil 1 0W-40 provides the widest range of protection providing the extreme cold start protection of an 0W grade and the high temperature protection of an SAE 40 grade.
According to Nassim Marketing Manager, the official statement from Peugeot for the 308 engine oil is 5W-30. [Nassim service booklet could have been printed in error]. I would like to add that the oil shall also comply with at least ACEA A3 and C2 specifications. API spec is insufficient for the new generation EP6-series prince engine.

Today I drove within speed limits on autocruise from BBBangi to JB. As a result of 0W - 40 oil the fuel consumption was unbelievable 6.4liter/100km or 11.52sen per km! The 308 THP consumed 1/3 tank only. Will test again tomorrow on return trip.
uncle D, the official statement from Peugeot for the 308 engine oil is 5W-30 and the 407 is 15W-50. found that the service book COULD have been printed in error.
Derick,
Correct. Peugeot Australia also recommends 5W-30 and 0W-30. TOTAL 10W-40 and 5W-40 are not suitable for 308 [Vti & THP].
What about 0W-40 ACEA A3/B4? I'm using it after my308 clocking 10,000km. I found this oil viscosity enhances fuel economy. I got 6.2liter/100km on my previous 300km trip from JB to BBBangi.
Hi Unc D,
Sorry to bring up this old topic. I was looking at the Amsoil SSO 0W-30 lubricants. It's stated to comply with specs ACEA A5/B5. Would it be suitable for our 308 THP engine ? Thanks a lot for your input
Hi CY,
0W-30, 5W-30 viscosity is recommended by Peugeot Australia as long it the oil complies with ACEA A3 specification. For the good health and long life span of cat. conv. the oil should be ACEA C2 compliance, but not mandatory.
ACEA A5/B5 specifications is even better but more than enough.
Thanks a lot for your reply !
Why bother with multigrade? Our climate temp range 20-40C so why not just use monograde like sae40?
